The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Anger About Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying all users about the change.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Changes
Previously, the sizing featured one number and one letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Stories
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the service retracted a modification regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
